Lucky local lady Maggie Pollington was recently given the star treatment on her birthday, courtesy of Cambridge Saab and Star Radio.
As part of a competition which ran on the Star Radio website earlier in the year, listeners were invited to pit their wits against the Saab IQ test, where the entrant who answered the most questions correctly on Saab and its range of vehicles would win an exclusive Saab VIP experience.
Maggie was chauffeured to and from the Cambridge airfield in a luxurious Saab 9-3 SportWagon, where she was then treated to a flight over the city in a light aircraft before being presented with a bottle of champagne upon landing.
All the money raised from auctioning the Saab IQ prize was donated to the Liam’s Mile fund – a charity initiative set up by young cancer sufferer Liam Fairhurst in support of the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent. Original prize winner Paul Mead was on hand to present Star Radio with a cheque for £330, accepted on Liam’s behalf, at the Mid-Anglia School of Flying.
James Howarth, Dealer Principal of Cambridge Saab, said: “We would like to thank Paul for his generous gesture of donating his prize to the charity auction and we were absolutely delighted that the Saab VIP experience raised so much money for a worthy cause. Balancing luxurious comfort with exhilarating performance is what Saab does best and this, combined with Saab’s deep-rooted aviation heritage means that Maggie really did receive a truly authentic Saab experience – we hope that she enjoyed her VIP birthday!”
Cambridge Saab’s link-up with local station Star Radio began when the dealership supplied the station with a New Saab 9-3 SportWagon to be used on-air and at public events by Star Radio Breakfast Show presenter Mark Peters. Dealer Principal James Howarth has since recorded a number of motoring podcasts for the station’s website, which can be downloaded now from www.star107.co.uk
